Prepare & Enrich Assessment: Relationship Report Card
An Evidence-Based, Personalized Starting Point for a Strong Marriage
What if you could see your relationship in full colour—your strengths, your blind spots, the patterns that hold you together, and the areas that could cause tension later on? Not as a guess, not based on generic advice, but through an objective, research-backed relationship inventory trusted by millions of couples worldwide.
That's exactly what the Prepare & Enrich Assessment provides.
This is not a test you can pass or fail. It is a scientifically validated relationship assessment that helps you and your partner understand your dynamics clearly—so you can confidently build a marriage that lasts.
Available in person in Burlington (serving Burlington & Oakville couples) and virtually to couples anywhere in Ontario, the assessment is the first step in the Prepare & Enrich premarital counselling framework offered at Graceway Wellness.
What Is the Prepare & Enrich Assessment?
The Prepare & Enrich Assessment is a 165-question online inventory completed individually by each partner. It measures more than 20 aspects of your relationship that research has shown to be predictive of long-term marital satisfaction. These include:
Communication styles
Conflict resolution patterns
Financial values and habits
Personality differences (SCOPE model)
Family-of-origin influences
Intimacy and affection
Relationship roles and expectations
Spiritual beliefs (if applicable)
Once completed, your answers generate a detailed, personalized 15-page report that becomes the roadmap for your premarital sessions.
Rather than guessing what topics you "should" talk about, the assessment shows exactly where your relationship is strong—and where you would benefit from strengthening skills before marriage through our therapeutic approach.
What the Assessment Reveals
Your report includes four powerful sections that give you a 360° understanding of your relationship:
1. Strength Areas
These are the dimensions of your relationship that are already working well. They may include emotional closeness, shared values, support during stress, or aligned financial perspectives. These strengths become the foundation of your marriage—what you return to when life becomes stressful.
2. Growth Areas
These are not "problems." They are areas where your expectations may differ, communication may be unclear, or assumptions haven't yet been discussed. Research shows that couples who explore these areas proactively have stronger long-term outcomes than those who wait until issues arise later in marriage.
3. Personality Dynamics (SCOPE)
The SCOPE model assesses five core personality traits:
Social (introverted vs extroverted)
Change (prefers routine or variety)
Organized (structured vs flexible)
Pleasing (accommodating vs assertive)
Emotionally Steady (expressive vs calm under pressure)
Understanding these traits helps you interpret your partner's reactions and preferences with compassion rather than confusion.
4. Family of Origin Mapping
Our families shape how we approach commitment, communication, conflict, and expectations. The assessment explores how each of you grew up—and how those patterns might influence your marriage, positively or negatively.
This insight is one of the most valuable parts of the assessment. Many couples realize for the first time why certain topics feel sensitive or why they respond to stress differently.
What the Assessment Is Not
It is not a compatibility test.
It is not designed to tell you whether or not you should get married.
It is not a pass/fail evaluation.
Instead, it is a mirror—showing you what's already true in your relationship, giving you language to understand your patterns, and providing a clear path to deepen your connection.
Why This Assessment Matters More Than Wedding Planning
Your wedding lasts one day—but your marriage lasts a lifetime.
Most couples spend months planning flowers, music, and décor, yet enter marriage without the same clarity or preparation for communication, decision-making, or navigating differences.
Research shows that couples who complete structured premarital programs like Prepare & Enrich:
Report higher marital satisfaction
Feel more confident entering their marriage
Experience increased communication skills
Are more equipped to navigate stress and conflict
The assessment gives you awareness and skills before you start married life—so you build your new future on solid ground, not hope alone.

The assessment often reveals unexpected insights—strengths that couples hadn't recognized become validated and visible, creating new appreciation for what's already working. Rather than highlighting problems, the process illuminates patterns and creates opportunities for guided conversations that might not have occurred naturally. Many discover that seeing their relationship dynamics objectively helps them understand each other with greater clarity and compassion.
